Mount Paku Summit

Mt Paku is a volcanic peak rising between the southern end of Tairua Beach and the Tairua harbour mouth. Walk to the summit of Mt Paku though a beautiful trail lined with native trees and the sound of birdsongs. The climb to the top is short and steep, with a scramble up big boulders just before the summit. From the top of Mt Paku you will see spectacular views of Tairua, Pauanui, the Coromandel ranges and many different islands out at sea!

Sailors Grave Beach


Sailors Grave or other known as Te Karo Bay is an uninhabited white sandy beach north of our little town of Tairua. The Pohutukawa Grove Recreation Reserve provides a range of shaded picnic areas for families, there's a small fresh water creek adjoining to the beach which is great for the young ones! At low tide a scenic one hour walk will take you around the headline to Otara Bay, you can then head back over to Te Karo Bay following the Otara Bay walking track where at the end you will find history on the Sailors Grave that is surrounded by white picket fencing.

Hot Water Beach

Hot water beach is world famous for the naturally occurring hot springs at low tide, with dramatic surf waves and a long white sandy beach it makes for an impressive sight! Near the mountain side geothermal activity creates heated water that bubbles up from under the surface of the sand by digging you can create your own hot pool, this is only accessible 2 hours either side of low tide. At reception we have spades and beach towels for hire, Hot water Beach is only a 24 minute drive from Pacific Harbour Villas!

Cathedral Cove

Cathedral Cove is located on the edge of the great Mercury Bay and is truly one of Aotearoa's most scenic icons, it is a must-do when visiting the Coromandel Peninsula. The Cove is a gigantic arched cavern that passes through a white rock headland to join two spectacular secluded coves, Cathedral has been voted 46th in The World's 50 Best Beaches. Only accessible by foot or boat/kayak, there are many businesses that offer to take guests out to Cathedral Cove Beach (by boat is the best way!)
